Days between dates calculator

Count the days, weeks and months between two dates, business days without public holidays, add days to a date or work out an exact age.

Business days: Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays. Holidays: US federal holidays (observed dates), bank holidays in England and Wales, or India’s three national holidays. Calculated in your browser; nothing is sent.

How to count the days between two dates

Pick a start date and an end date: the calculator shows the number of days between them right away, along with the same gap expressed in other ways:

  • in years, months and days, and in weeks;
  • in business days (Monday to Friday) and in days from Monday to Saturday, without public holidays;
  • in weekend days, hours and minutes;
  • with the week numbers of both dates and the list of public holidays in the period.

By default, the calculator gives the difference between the two dates: from Monday the 2nd to Friday the 6th, that is 4 days. When both days count, as for a rental, a leave or a hotel stay, tick “Include the end date” and the result becomes 5 days. Two other tabs add days to a date and calculate an age. It’s free, there’s nothing to sign up for, and everything runs in your browser.

Calendar days vs business days

The same deadline lands on a different date depending on which days you count:

You countDays includedTypical uses
Calendar daysevery day, weekends and holidays includeda 30-day return window, a 14-day trial, the length of a trip
Business daysMonday to Friday, except public holidaysdelivery in 3 to 5 business days, bank transfers, processing times
Monday to Saturdaysix days a week, except public holidaysjobs and countries with a six-day working week

A year has between 260 and 262 weekdays. Once federal holidays are removed, the United States has 250 business days in 2026 and 249 in 2027; England and Wales have 253 in both years.

Which public holidays are included

Choose the holidays that apply to you in the “Holidays” list. It sets the business day count in both the first and the second tab:

  • United States: the 11 federal holidays. When one falls on a Saturday, it is observed on the Friday before; on a Sunday, on the Monday after. The tool uses those observed dates, as federal offices and most employers do.
  • UK (England and Wales): the 8 bank holidays, with substitute days when Christmas, Boxing Day or New Year’s Day fall on a weekend, plus one-off holidays such as the 2023 coronation.
  • India: the three national holidays (Republic Day, Independence Day and Gandhi Jayanti). Festival holidays vary from state to state and many follow the lunar calendar, so they are not included.
  • None: only weekends are left out.

US federal holidays in 2027:

New Year’s Day 2028 falls on a Saturday, so it is observed on Friday, December 31, 2027: federal employees get 12 days off in 2027. In England and Wales, the 2027 bank holidays are January 1, March 26 (Good Friday), March 29 (Easter Monday), May 3, May 31, August 30, and December 27 and 28, as Christmas falls on a Saturday.

Add or subtract days from a date

The “Add or subtract days” tab gives the date you reach after a period of time, and the day of the week it falls on. The period can be counted in days, business days, weeks, months or years:

  • in days: October 30, 2026 plus 30 days is Sunday, November 29, 2026;
  • in business days: weekends and the public holidays you selected are skipped, as for a delivery time or a processing time;
  • in months: the date keeps the same day of the month, or moves to the last day when that day doesn’t exist. January 31 plus one month is February 28 (February 29 in a leap year).

If the result falls on a weekend or a public holiday, the tool tells you, since many deadlines then move to the next business day.

Calculate your exact age

In the “Age calculator” tab, enter a date of birth: you get the age in years, months and days on the date of your choice (today by default), the number of days and weeks lived, the date of the next birthday and the day of the week the person was born. For someone born on February 29, the birthday is set to February 28 in non-leap years.

How week numbers are counted

The calculator uses ISO 8601 week numbers, the standard in Europe and in many calendars: weeks start on Monday, and week 1 is the week that contains the first Thursday of the year. The first days of January can therefore belong to the last week of the previous year. A year has 52 weeks, sometimes 53: 2026 has 53, because it starts on a Thursday. Some US calendars count weeks from Sunday instead, so their numbers can differ by one.

Frequently asked questions

How do I count the days between two dates?

Enter both dates in the calculator: the number of days appears at once, with the breakdown in weeks, months and business days. By hand, count the days left in the first month, add the days of the full months in between, then the days of the last month.

By default, the calculator gives the difference between the two dates: from the 1st to the 5th of a month, that is 4 days. When both days count, as for a rental from the 1st to the 5th inclusive, tick “Include the end date” to get 5 days.

A business day is a day when businesses are normally open: Monday to Friday, except public holidays. Saturdays, Sundays and holidays are left out, which is why a delivery “in 5 business days” often takes a full week or more.

In the United States, 2027 has 249 business days once the 12 federal holiday dates are removed. In England and Wales, there are 253. Without any holidays, 2027 has 261 weekdays.

Subtract the two dates, for example =B1-A1, or use =DAYS(B1,A1). For business days, =NETWORKDAYS(A1,B1,Holidays) counts Monday to Friday, including both dates, without the holidays listed in the Holidays range.

Enter your date of birth in the “Age calculator” tab: you get your age in years, months and days, the number of days you have lived and the date of your next birthday. You can also pick another date than today, for example to find out someone’s age on a past date.

New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day (January 18), Presidents’ Day (February 15), Memorial Day (May 31), Juneteenth (observed June 18), Independence Day (observed July 5), Labor Day (September 6), Columbus Day (October 11), Veterans Day, Thanksgiving (November 25) and Christmas (observed December 24).

A year has 52 weeks and 1 day, or 2 days in a leap year. With ISO week numbers, some years have 53 numbered weeks: 2026 does, because it starts on a Thursday. 2027 and 2028 have 52.
